In 2014 Sophie Walker became the youngest woman to design a garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Having studied art history, Sophie later qualified in horticulture, plant science, and garden design. Based in London, she practises globally. In addition to designing gardens, Sophie lectures on conceptual design, the Japanese garden, planting, and the garden environment.

This is an absolutely gorgeous book, both the book itself and the pictures inside. Every photo has a description of the garden, the period in which it was created, and its location. There are sections explaining important concepts of Japanese gardens which are insightful. Just note that this is not a book on how to design a Japanese garden, so if you’re looking for a DIY book this is not it.
Both austere and beautiful, this scholarly book is filled with data on Japanese history and Esthetics that will satisfy the readership for a long time. A reference manual written with dedicated love and expert knowledge on the subject.

I bought this for a xmas gift after hearing about it on the radio. It sounded nice and it does have a lot of good information and photos but the quality of the book and especially the photos is terrible. The color quality of the photos are poor and the photos are matte, not shiny photo quality. Overall it really looks like an 'on demand' printing which seems in direct contrast to the subject of Japanese Gardens. We are returning it.
This is an exhaustive presentation n Japanese gardens which incorporates the religious and cultural spirit of Japan
